Dermed blir styringsrenta liggende på et intervall mellom 3,5 og 3,75 prosent.\n\nI en pressemelding fra sentralbanken heter det at den økomomiske aktiviteten har økt, men at jobbveksten er lav. Inflasjonen, på 2,8 prosent, er fremdeles over sentralbankens mål.\n\n«Komiteen har som mål å oppnå maksimal sysselsetting og en inflasjon på 2 prosent på lengre sikt. Usikkerheten rundt de økonomiske utsiktene er fortsatt høy», heter det i pressemeldingen.\n\n### Nektet å svare\n\nSentralbanksjef Powell sier at deres mål er å holde sysselsettingen på et høyt nivå, og få inflasjonen ned til målet på 2 prosent.\n\n\\- At vi lykkes i å nå disse målene, betyr noe for alle amerikanere. Vi i sentralbanken vil fortsette å gjøre vår jobb med objektivitet, integritet og en dyp forpliktelse til å tjene det amerikanske folket, sier Powell.\n\nFlere journalister prøvde også å få Powell til å svare på ting relatert til hans forhold Trump, men Powell lot seg ikke friste til å svare.\n\nDet han faktisk ønsket å svare på, var hvor viktig det er at sentralbanken er politsk uavhengig, og at det har befolkningen godt.\n\n\\- Årsaken til det er at pengepolitikken kan bli brukt, i en valgsyklus, til å påvirke økonomien på en måte som vil være politisk fordelaktig, sier Powell.\n\nPå spørsmål om han tror sentralbanken klarer å beholde sin uavhengighet, svarer Powell:\n\n\\- Ja. Jeg er sterkt forpliktet til det, og det er mine kolleger også.\n\nPowell har to rentemøter igjen før hans åremål som sentralbanksjef er over. På spørsmål om han har noe råd til sin etterfølger, er meldingen klar:\n\n\\- Hold deg unna partipolitikk.\n\nSjeføkonom i SpareBank 1 Sør\\-Norge, Kyrre Knudsen, synes det er interessant at sentralbanken nå virker å være mindre bekymret for lav økonomisk vekst enn tidligere, og peker på flere tegn til solid økonomisk vekst.\n\n– Summen av dette er at rentekutt kan trekke ut i tid, og i verste fall blir det ikke flere rentekutt i år. Trump derimot vil gjerne ha rentekutt så fort som mulig. Dette kan øke spenningen mellom Trump og sentralbanken, sier Knudsen.\n\n### Trumps hakkekylling\n\nAt renta ble holdt i råd er pent sagt ikke i tråd med Trumps ønsker. Han har gjort Powell om til sin hakkekylling, fordi Powell ikke setter ned renta like mye som Trump skulle ønske seg. Tre rentekutt i fjor var ikke nok.\n\n«En tulling som ikke har peiling», «han har noen alvorlige mentale problemer» og «en gedigen taper» er bare noen av karakteristikken Trump har øst over Powell.\n\nSist Trump gikk offentlig ut mot Powell var 13. januar, i forbindelse med desember\\-tallene for konsumprisindeksen i USA, som landet på 2,7 prosent.\n\n\\- Flotte inflasjonstall for USA. Dette betyr at Jerome «for sent ute» Powell burde kutte i styringsrenta, sa Trump.\n\nPowell nøyde seg svært lenge med å la personangrepene forbigå ukommentert, og viste bare til at det er tallene og statistikken som legger premissene for sentralbankens rentesetting.\n\n### Etterforskning\n\nMen ting endret seg da det i januar ble klart at Powell er under etterforskning et oppussingsprosjekt i sentralbanken. Oppussingen gikk nemlig på en kostnadssprekk.\n\nEtterforskningen dreier seg om kostnadssprekken og om Powell villedet Kongressen om omfanget av prosjektet.\n\nDet fikk begeret til å renne over for Powell. I en uttalelse slo han fast at trusselen om straffeforfølgelse er et resultat av politisk press, siden sentralbanken ikke har gitt etter for Trumps renteønsker.\n\nTrump hevder selv han ikke har noe med etterforskningen å gjøre, og at han ikke en gang «ville tenkt på å gjøre det på den måten».\n\nDenne utviklingen fikk uansett en rekke sentralbanksjefer, deriblant vår egen Ida Wolden Bache, til å gå ut med en støtteerklæring til Powell.\n\nJerome Powells åremålsstilling som sentralbanksjef går ut i mai. Trump har foreløpig ikke avslørt hvem han ønsker skal etterfølge Powell.",

Inflasjonen, på 2,8 prosent, er fremdeles over sentralbankens mål.</p>\t\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-weight-bold m-font-weight-bold\" data-lab-font_weight=\"font-weight-bold\">«Komiteen har som mål å oppnå maksimal sysselsetting og en inflasjon på 2 prosent på lengre sikt. Tre rentekutt i fjor var ikke nok.</p>\t\n\n\n\n<p class=\"font-weight-bold m-font-weight-bold\" data-lab-font_weight=\"font-weight-bold\">«En tulling som ikke har peiling», «han har noen alvorlige mentale problemer» og «en gedigen taper» er bare noen av karakteristikken Trump har øst over Powell.</p>\t\n\n\n\n<p>Sist Trump gikk offentlig ut mot Powell var 13. januar, i forbindelse med desember-tallene for konsumprisindeksen i USA, som landet på 2,7 prosent.</p>\t\n\n\n\n<p>- Flotte inflasjonstall for USA.
